Dear Fellow Saint Mary's College Alumna:
As you may recall, the Saint Mary's College Alumnae Club was divided into four separate clubs to meet the geographical demands of the Saint Mary's alumnae in the Chicago Metropolitan area. If you live from Huntley to Libertyville, Roselle to Harvard, you are part of our area! We hope that you will choose to become involved in the alumnae club and reconnect with others with whom you share a common experience! See below information about our future events. We'd love to have you join us!

Spring Event
Monday, April 28

Please join us for a terrific Spring Event!!  In conjunction with the Book Club, we will welcome author
Peter K. Connolly, a 1955 graduate of Notre Dame, to our meeting.
He has recently published the novel When Shadows Fell at Notre Dame, about an ND student & an SMC student & an old murder on campus.

Our event will be held on Monday April 28th, with cocktails beginning at 7pm, & our discussion at 7:30pm.

We will meet at Peggy Kinnane’s Irish Pub, 8 N. Vail Street in Arlington Heights, IL.  [847]577-7733. The pub is conveniently located 1 block south of the train line, & 1 block north of a free public parking garage.

Appetizers, dessert, pop & coffee will be provided by the club.  There is a cash bar, & the pub has a full menu.

In addition to the fun social aspect of the event, the author will lead a discussion of his work.  His book is available at Barnes & Noble & Amazon.com, or through his website www.ndshadows.com.

The cost of the event is $10 in advance, payable to SMC Chicago NW.  Please RSVP & send your payment to Julie Deischer, 328 W. Margaret Terrace Cary IL 60013 no later than April 21st.  The cost of the event is $15 at the door, so RSVP early!!!

Any questions?  Please contact co-chair Mary McKeown,  mary@mckeown.us, or Julie Deischer, juliedeischer@yahoo.com.

Book Club Dates
In March, we will meet on Monday, March 31st to discuss "The Nine: Inside the Secret World of the Supreme Court" by Jeffrey Toobin.

All meetings are scheduled to be held at Hackney's in Wheeling, 241 S. Milwaukee Avenue at 7:00.  Any questions, please email Mary McKeown at mary@mckeown.us

If you've been thinking about joining the book club, but haven't yet been able to attend, don't despair. You are welcome to attend any meeting(s). You can come as often or as infrequently as your schedule permits. Give it a try. We have a lot of fun! We talk about the book of the month and much more. Take the time to connect with other SMC alums!

ND/SMC Mom's Group
The group has started meeting for the year. Click here for the speaker schedule for the first couple months. Also, Denise Haire will be providing babysitting again, but we ask for a $3/child donation.
The group meets at 9:30AM in the basement of St. Francis de Sales Church in Lake Zurich. We will be Valker Hall. For more information, the ND contact is Michelle Titterton (downtoearthgs@comcast.net). Or, you can contact Julie Deischer (ddjd95@msn.com, 847-462-9033).

We wish to welcome Louanne Mauro and Sara Arlene Leavitt-Turner as our new Membership Co-Chairs. They will be taking the reins from the terrific Jennifer Andrew, who was the founding chair for the past three years. Many thanks for their willingness to step into this new role, and to Jennifer for her energy and efforts. Look for a directory this year, and don’t forget to send in your membership dues and forms!! You can contact Louanne at lsmauro@sbcglobal.net and Sara Arlene at saraarlene@aol.com with any questions or requests for membership forms.

We are looking for a hostess for a holiday event, which in the past has been a cookie exchange. We are open to a change in theme, if a brunch or a couples cocktail party would be more desirable. Also, we would be willing to hold the event later in November to avoid the holiday party rush. Contact us with your ideas!!! Finally, we are looking at the feasibility of setting up a social event during the Winter Break for current SMC and ND students in the area. This would be an ideal event for a parent of a current student, a young alum or a young alum couple to be involved in. If you are interested in co-chairing and helping to plan either event, please contact Julie Deischer (847-462-9033 or ddjd95@msn.com).
