Book Overview: A subtle and powerful work of contemporary fiction. Combe Island off the Cornish coast has a bloodstained history of piracy and cruelty but now, privately owned, it offers respite to over-stressed men and women in positions of high authority who require privacy and guaranteed security. But the peace of Combe is violated when one of the distinguished visitors is bizarrely murdered.

Service Project: Women’s Life Care Center
As part of our commitment to the mission of our Alumnae club, we will be participating in a service project this club year.
The club has chosen a wonderful organization to support – The Women’s Life Care Center. Located in Little Canada, the center helps women and families affected by unplanned pregnancies through lay counseling, education, and nurturing support.
The Women’s Life Care Center provides a Learn and Earn education program for women and families by which they earn credits that can be redeemed for baby items of their choosing. The philosophy of the center is “a hand up not a handout”. They believe it is in the clients’ best interests to not only become responsible for their families but to become a productive member of society. In addition, the center provides free diapers and formula to clients, free pregnancy tests financial and material support to all women affected by unplanned pregnancies. The Women’s Life Care Center serves 15 zip codes in the Northern suburbs of the St. Paul and has been in existence since 1982.
The center continues to develop programs to help women in crisis pregnancy and is funded by the private donations, fund raising and donations of organizations like us. I strongly urge you to support this organization; not only for the women and families it helps but also to help make our 2008-2009 service project a successful one!
Donations for this year’s service project will be accepted now through February. Donations will be used to purchase the items most needed by the center to support the families (diapers, formula, clothing, etc.) at this time. Please send your monetary donation to:
Ann Clark
2812 Sun Terrace
White Bear Lake, MN 55110
Please make your check payable to the Women’s Life Care Center. All donations are tax-deductible.
