SMC Club Christmas Lunch

Thank you to Karen Weaver for hosting the club at her home today. It was a wonderful lunch, full of good food, treats, and Belles. Karen's warm hospitality made us all feel welcome in her lovely home. Thank you, Karen!

Thanks also to Nancy Cieszykowski for donating Arbonne items for the silent auction. Get in touch with Nancy and let her do your shopping or pampering! 816-590-5804  nancyciz@comcast.net

Thank you to Arwen Moore for bringing the empty boxes for the club to fill with items for the KC students and for taking the filled boxes to ship. Arwen handles it all and is so appreciated!

Lastly, thank you to all who were able to attend. It was wonderful to meet new club members and reconnect with long-time members who had not been able to attend in recent years.

What a wonderful day! Thanks to you all!

KC Club ScholarshipScholarship

The club is donating $500 to St. Mary's this year. While it's less than recent years when there were bigger fundraisers, it will still provide some support for a local student. The College will select the recipient and disburse the funds appropriately.

KC Club Dues

The dues for 2011 remain $25.
Dues cover the cost of shipping care packages for first semester finals, gift cards for second semester finals, and graduation gifts. They also support the scholarship fund, as the club keeps very little money in its account.

When the club does fundraisers, the money is raised solely for the scholarship and cannot be used for care packages, gift cards, or other local club needs. Your dues are very important, so please send them.

Please send dues for 2011 to Arwen by the end of 2010.

Club Officers: Passing the Baton

It is with great pleasure that I welcome Nancy Midden as the new president of the club.

Nancy was the leading force for the silent auction four years ago when the club had its most successful year of fundraising ever. The success of the auction and football ticket raffle enabled the club to establish a scholarship, and Nancy was a key part of it. We are blessed to have Nancy as our leader going forward.

The club has accomplished much over the last five years, and it has been a pleasure leading it. A few highlights include creating the scholarship, donating more than $4,000 to St. Mary's, communicating electronically, donations to Operation Breakthrough, painting at Rose Brooks, and linking with the ND Club.

The club's success would not have been possible without Arwen Moore. She has been my right-hand gal, as well as the best sounding board anyone could hope to have on the team. I was lucky she came aboard in 2005 and stayed the whole time--even through marriage and a new baby! You will all be relieved to know Arwen will be continuing in her position as Club Treasurer. Whew!

Thanks Arwen!
As I corunners batonmplete five years as the club president and turn the leadership over to Nancy, I am reminded of how runners pass the baton during relay races. In those races, the baton is more important than the runners. After all, it is the placement of the baton that determines victory. It is with great care and excitement that I hand the baton to Nancy. And, it is with great care and eagerness which she grabs it to run her race.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as the club president. The main highlight for me was getting to know you all. Your emails to keep in touch, volunteer, share ideas, and join the club when you moved to KC always brightened my day. I look forward to keeping in touch and to continuing to be involved in support of Nancy.

Nancy will get in touch in January to kick off the new year, so watch for emails from her--be sure to check your spam folders.

Peace, joy, and love,
Kelly

The SMC Women's Choir Visit

The Women's Choir visited KC in March—and what a choir they are! If you ever get a chance to hear them, take it. It was beautiful. The choir has won national awards, and it was easy to see why. Thanks to Sarah Sullivan Bigelow for arranging the hospitality—and thanks to so many of you for hosting. Dena O’Campo hosted a dinner for all 82 of the visitors as well. The generosity of all the hosts was so appreciated by Dr. Menk and all the girls. (Click on images to see larger versions.)
