Hello Milwaukee Saint Mary's Alumnae!

The Saint Mary's Alumnae Club of Milwaukee had a very busy month of August.  The Greater Milwaukee area is sending off six new students to Saint Mary's including; Erin Cassidy, Sarah Kastelic, Sara Bauer, Emily Neumann, Bridget Parker and Katherine Stare.  Alum Mary Pat Wilson Russell, 78, graciously opened her home and served as hostess for this year's college send off. She was assisted by Barb Mueller, 74.  Many thanks to Mary Pat and Barb for organizing this important event.

On August 17th, the Alumnae Club hosted it's first ever Milwaukee Brewer baseball game and tailgate.  An enthusiastic group of alums enjoyed a delicious pre-game tailgate complete with brats, potato salad, beans, relishes, chips, brownies and cookies.  Miller Park was rocking as the SMC and ND alums cheered the Brewers on to an exciting victory over the Los Angelos Dodgers.  The event was made even more special as the Club was able to unveil its brand new Club Banner straight off the presses courtesey of Sara O'Connor's father in law!  Many thanks for this beautiful banner.  We will certainly find many uses for it.

Finally, we are creating a Saint Mary's Milwaukee Alumnae Club Facebook page and hope to have it off the group by October.  Speaking of October, we are also planning an Annual Luncheon with guest speaker for sometime in mid to late October.  Look for an email with the specific date.

I have asked Sara O'Connor to serve as the Vice-President and Treasurer for the CLub and she has graciosly agreed to do so.  I will continue to serve as Club President and Secretary.  If you have any interst in joining our club or working on a club actiivity, please feel free to contact me at 414-803-4094 or prosqtr1@aol.com

CLUB E-MAIL
If you have not been receiving e-mails from the Club, and you have an e-mail address, please e-mail your contact information to SMCMKECLUB@gmail.com. Being able to communicate with alumnae via e-mail drastically decreases our mailing costs and will allow the club to plan more events in the future.

GET INVOLVED!
We just reorganized the club and we're looking for people to join our committees! Currently we're looking for Coordinators for the Book Club, the Social Committee, and the Mom group! If you're interested, send Missy and Kristi an email at smcmkeclub@gmail.com.

Dear Saint Mary's Milwaukee Area Alumnae and friends of Saint Mary's College;

It's that time of year when we really begin to think that Summer may actually arrive in Milwaukee.  Summerfest, Festa Italiano, Irish Fest, State Fair, Lake Front Festival of the Arts and of course Milwaukee Brewers Baseball!

In the true spirit of summer, the Saint Mary's Milwaukee area Alumnae Club will host a MEGA FUN Summer Brewer Game and TailGate for all Alums, their spouse, partner, significant other or just good friend.
Current Students and Parents of current students are also invited, as are adult children of Alumnae. We are also inviting the Notre Dame Milwaukee Area Alumna Club to join us.  This is a great way for older and younger alums, newer grads and older grads to network or just catch up with old college friends.  If there is enough of a response we would like to make this an annual event.

We have a couple of games to choose from; Tuesday Night, June 21st Brewers vs. Tampa Bay or Wednesday Night, August 17th, Brewers vs. Los Angelos Dodgers. Both games are 7:10 PM starts.  Cost per person is $50 and that includes a game ticket in either the infield or outfield loge section, a catered tailgate of Hamburgers, Brats, Hotdogs, chips, potato salad, baked beans, relishes, condiments, desserts and of course beer and soda. Depending on the response, we will be in one of the Brewers open air but covered pavilions.

I will need your game preference and how many tickets you will need for the outing no later than June 5th.  I will also be posting this announcement on our Saint Mary's Club website. Once the game is finalized I will send another email out with details including the
final cost and my address for mailing your payment to.   REMEMBER TO
SPREAD THE WORD AND GO BREWERS!!

Best,
Mary Kuhnmuench

The Alumnae Relations Office welcomes a new president for the Milwaukee Alumnae Club: Mary Rukavina Kuhnmuench '78. Mary hosted a organizational meeting at her home in January to reenergize the club and strategize for the coming year.

Stay tuned for upcoming events including the popular Communion Mass and breakfast, a joint event with the Notre Dame Milwaukee Alumni Club, on March 20th.

Look forward to a summer Brewer's game and tailgate, a student send-off, a September fundraising walk for breast cancer research, and the annual club luncheon in October.

"We want to create opportunities for our Wisconsin Alumnae to network and socialize, said Kuhnmuench. "Whether it's a book club or a quilting club, let us know your interest and we will work to put you in touch with other club members with similar interests."

Thank you to everyone who came out to welcome Dr. Carol Ann Mooney to
celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Saint Mary's College Milwaukee Club!
Dr. Mooney was joined by her husband, George Efta, along with Kara O'Leary,
Director of Alumnae Relations and Shari Rodriguez, Vice President of College
Relations.  Dr. Mooney shared updates from campus, including information
about the new academic building, Spes Unica Hall.

SERVICE PROJECT
As a service project, the Milwaukee Club will be sponsoring a troop from Milwaukee that is currently serving our country overseas in Iraq. The troop that we are sponsoring has many basic needs and supplies are not available close to where they are stationed, or they sell out quickly from the US run supply stores near where they are located. Items such as baby wipes, deodorant, Q tips, razors, playing cards, magazines, snack foods (sunflower seeds and beef jerky are favorites), individual drink mixes are needed and would be greatly appreciated by the troops. In addition to supplies, letters from the states and pictures from kids help to boost the morale of the troops. If you would like to help donate supplies for the troops, please contact Missy Lind '98 mal515@sbcglobal.net). If you would rather us shop for supplies and would like to contribute financially (checks payable to the SMC Milwaukee Club) or have a letter/picture to send to the troops, please mail them to Missy Lind, 157 Linden Lane, Unit 4, Thiensville, WI 53092.

CARE PACKAGES
We will be putting together exam care packages for the 18 women currently enrolled at Saint Mary's from the Milwaukee area in late November/early December to let them know that we support them and their studies! If you are interested in helping with the finals care packages, please contact Kristi Brandon '03 (Kristi.b.brandon@gmail.com). Kristi will be sending out an e-mail with more information in the coming weeks, so watch your inboxes!

THINGS TO WATCH FOR IN 2009:

We are looking to put together a networking event after the 1st of the year that will bring together Saint Mary's women of all ages at a venue in downtown Milwaukee. If you have any suggestions for places to go, or would like to help coordinate, please contact us: smcmkeclub@gmail.com.

In the spring we will be getting our families together and heading to the zoo to enjoy some time with your fellow Saint Mary's alumnae. Watch for details to come in late March regarding this event.

Do you have ideas for events that the Saint Mary's Milwaukee Club can do?

Are you interested in planning an event? Coordinating a Milwaukee Mom's Group or a Book Club? Please let us know! We can be reached at SMCMKECLUB@gmail.com

BOOK CLUB
Several alumnae have expressed interest in getting a book club together.  The book club did meet once in the Spring of the year and then postponed future meetings until after the summer.

If you are interested in becoming a part of the book club, please send us an e-mail with the days of the week that work best for you along with what start time would be best for you.  Also, if you have any books that you think we should read, please feel free to share your recommendations.  We will create a sub mailing list for those who are interested in being a part of the book club.

HOLIDAY SERVICE PROJECT
If anyone is interested in being part of a Toy Drive for area children this Christmas Season, please let us know via e-mail.  We would be happy to coordinate it if we have interested alumnae.

If we don't see you before, we hope that you and your families have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

Kristi and Missy

THANK YOU to everyone who helped put together finals care packages for the eight Saint Mary’s students from the Milwaukee area. We were able to put together a big box of goodies for each one of them!

SPRING TRIP TO THE ZOO
Thanks to all who were able to join us on Sunday, June 10th at the Milwaukee County Zoo! Look for this to be an annual Saint Mary’s Gathering. We had a beautiful day and it was nice to catch up with fellow SMC alumnae and their families.

BOOK CLUB
We had our first book club meeting on April 25th where we discussed Adriana Trigiani’s book Home to Big Stone Gap. Anyone interested in joining us for the next book club, please e-mail SMCMKECLUB@gmail.com and we will be sure to get you on the e-mail list for the book club.

If you have any suggestions for books that you would like to read for the club, please e-mail us and let us know. Also let us know what time of day works best for you.

The Milwaukee Club has done a bit of reorganization. We had our first club meeting on Wednesday, September 13, 2006 with about 10 alumnae in attendance.

Watch this website for upcoming events!

We plan to put something together in November and December, so look back for future details. Bookmark us and check back!

Interested in getting involved with the club?

We still have some coordinator spots available and would love to have more of our Milwaukee area alumnae involved. Please feel free to contact Kristi or Missy if you are interested in getting involved, or e-mail us at smcmkeclub@gmail.com and someone will get back to you promptly.
